MenaRD claims second Evo title in record-breaking Street Fighter 6 tournament
Samuel 'MenaRD' Mena of the Dominican Republic emerged victorious at Evo Japan 2025, clinching the Street Fighter 6 title in a dominant run that confirmed his reputation as one of the game's finest.

Held from 9-11 May, the tournament drew a record-breaking 7,200 competitors, marking the largest Street Fighter 6 event to date.
MenaRD, already regarded as a top player heading into the tournament, didn't drop a single set across the weekend.
In the grand final, he faced off against Japanese favourite Ryukichi, securing a 3-1 win in a thrilling, back-and-forth match.
MenaRD primarily used Blanka in the final, but surprised many fans throughout the tournament with his strategic use of Zangief and M. Bison.
With this victory, MenaRD becomes a two-time Evo champion, further cementing his legacy in the fighting game community.
He also took home 12,000 dollars in prize money, but for MenaRD, the impact goes beyond personal achievement. A vocal advocate for the fighting game scene in the Dominican Republic, he remains dedicated to supporting and growing the community back home.
MenaRD was one of only three non-Japanese players to reach the Top 8, highlighting the depth of local talent.
