Michael Olise shines for Bayern Munich as Vincent Kompany draws Kevin De Bruyne comparison
Michael Olise has made a sensational start to the 2025/26 season with Bayern Munich, scoring twice in a commanding 6-0 victory over RB Leipzig on the Bundesliga's opening weekend.

The French international's performance built on a brilliant debut campaign and prompted high praise from Bayern manager Vincent Kompany, who likened Olise's development to that of his former Manchester City teammate, Kevin De Bruyne.
Olise, who joined Bayern from Crystal Palace last summer for 50.7 million pounds, has quickly become one of the club's key attacking figures. In his first season at the Allianz Arena, he scored 17 goals and registered 21 assists across all competitions, played every Bundesliga match, and helped Bayern reclaim the league title. He added three goals and two assists in the Club World Cup, reinforcing his rising star status on the global stage.
Kompany, speaking after Bayern's emphatic win over Leipzig and ahead of their DFB-Pokal opener against Wehen Wiesbaden, lauded Olise's maturity and commitment.
"Michael's numbers aren't my priority, but I do expect him to get better and make strides," Kompany said. "I've seen the development of such talents before - perhaps comparable to Kevin De Bruyne. What's important is what they do every day in training. I see total calm in him. He's won something now, but that's in the past - he has to keep going."
Olise's influence was evident from the start of the new campaign, with a composed strike in the 27th minute followed by a second goal before halftime against Leipzig. His two-goal performance was a continuation of the high standards he set last season and a sign of the responsibility he now carries in Bayern's attacking setup.
The praise didn't stop with Kompany. Bayern's sporting director Christoph Freund, while declining to comment on reports of a release clause in Olise's contract, reaffirmed the club's desire to keep the 23-year-old long term.
"We generally don't talk about contract details," Freund said. "Our aim is that Michael will stay at FC Bayern for a long time. He's an exceptional talent."
As Bayern prepare for their first-round DFB-Pokal clash away to third-division side Wehen Wiesbaden, Kompany made it clear that the team would not be taking the match lightly. Though some lineup changes are expected, the manager emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum and focus.
"It's not about resting," Kompany stated. "We've started very well. If Leon Goretzka makes it through the final training session, he'll be there as usual. Everyone from the weekend is available. I don't like the word 'rotation'. We want to go to Berlin, we want to reach the final. I have the utmost respect for our opponents, and I'll field a team that can win this game. We can't afford to do anything crazy."
With Olise continuing to flourish under Kompany's leadership, Bayern look poised to mount serious challenges on all fronts once again. And if the young Frenchman keeps up this trajectory, the De Bruyne comparison may prove more prophecy than praise.
