VfL Wolfsburg appoint Paul Simonis as new head coach
VfL Wolfsburg have appointed Paul Simonis as their new head coach, ushering in a new era for the Bundesliga side.

The 40-year-old Dutchman, previously at the helm of Go Ahead Eagles, has signed a contract until 2027, replacing Ralph Hasenhuttl at the Volkswagen Arena.
Wolfsburg's managing director for sport, Peter Christiansen, praised the meticulous selection process that led to Simonis' appointment. "Paul was the standout candidate," Christiansen said. "His attention to detail and alignment with our vision for dynamic, attacking football made him the perfect fit.
"We're confident he'll drive the club forward, from the first team to our youth setups."
Simonis, known for his high-energy approach, expressed enthusiasm for the challenge. "Joining Wolfsburg is an incredible opportunity," he said. "My talks with the board were inspiring, and I'm ready to compete in the Bundesliga, one of Europe's toughest leagues.
"I can't wait to work with the players and staff to build something special."
The Wolves, who finished mid-table last season, are banking on Simonis' fresh ideas to rejuvenate the squad and climb the Bundesliga standings.
A recent post on X from the official VfL Wolfsburg account echoed this optimism, stating: "A new chapter begins with Paul Simonis! Let's go, Wolves!"
Fans on X have also buzzed with excitement, with one user posting, "Simonis' attacking style could be exactly what Wolfsburg need to shake things up."
Simonis' track record at Go Ahead Eagles, where he implemented a bold, possession-based system, suggests Wolfsburg are poised for an exciting transformation.
His first test will be to integrate his philosophy with a talented but underperforming squad, with the season opener just weeks away.
