Italy axe head coach Luciano Spalletti after Norway defeat
Luciano Spalletti has been dismissed as head coach of the Italian national team following a disappointing 3-0 loss to Norway in Friday's World Cup qualifier.

Spalletti confirmed his departure during a press conference on Sunday, revealing that FIGC President Gabriele Gravina had informed him of the decision following internal discussions.
"Last night, I met with President Gravina, and he told me I would be relieved of my duties as head coach," Spalletti said. "I had no intention of stepping down. I would have preferred to stay and continue the work we've started. I'll be on the bench against Moldova, then we'll resolve the contract."
Despite the dismissal, Spalletti will remain in charge for Monday's friendly against Moldova in what will now serve as his final match at the helm.
The defeat in Oslo exposed a number of vulnerabilities in the Italian side, raising concerns over form and tactical cohesion under Spalletti's leadership. Appointed less than a year ago following a successful stint with Napoli, Spalletti was brought in to revitalize a squad still seeking consistency after their UEFA Euro 2020 triumph.
The FIGC is expected to begin its search for a replacement immediately, with the qualifying campaign continuing later this year.
