Miguel takes over the armband from Yusuf Maart, who recently completed a move to Austrian Bundesliga side SV Ried. The 30-year-old midfielder departs Naturena after three seasons with the Soweto giants, having joined from Sekhukhune United in 2022.

Maart's exit comes shortly after playing a pivotal role in Chiefs' historic 2025 Nedbank Cup triumph, where his match-winning goal in the final against Orlando Pirates ended the club's decade-long wait for silverware.

Speaking after Chiefs' Toyota Cup loss to Ghanaian champions Asante Kotoko - a match that ended 3-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in regulation time - Nabi confirmed Miguel's promotion to the captaincy.

“Today, Miguel was the captain. He will captain the team for the upcoming season,” Nabi told reporters at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The centre-back has already worn the armband during pre-season fixtures in the Netherlands and led the side again in the weekend's Toyota Cup outing, solidifying his role as a leader within the squad.

While the result didn't go Chiefs' way, Nabi expressed satisfaction with his side's display, highlighting the match as a useful benchmark ahead of the new season.

“I'm very satisfied with what I saw in the game. It allowed us to see where we are right now,” said Nabi.
“We could have won the match in the last ten minutes. Unfortunately, we didn't, but that's football. We'll use the next two weeks to fine-tune things before the season starts.”

Kaizer Chiefs kick off their 2025/26 Betway Premiership campaign with a tough away fixture against Stellenbosch FC, as the club looks to build on the momentum of last season's cup success and mount a sustained challenge for league honours under Nabi's new leadership.
