Cricket News: Shubman Gill rising star for India - Likely to captain India ‘A’ team against New Zealand ‘A’
Shubman Gill is expected to get a step forward in his journey with a captaincy role against New Zealand A

After the ongoing Zimbabwe series Indian test reserve opener is likely to lead the Indian ‘A’ team against New Zealand ‘A’. The tour will be in three four-day matches and one-day games next month. Domestic Indian players who have performed well in the Ranji Trophy, IPL and other domestic matches are likely to be part of the Indian team for the series.
Apart from him, national selectors are likely to reward Shams Mulani with a maiden India ‘A’ call. He is the left-arm spinning all-rounder who had a sensational season for Mumbai at senior and under 25 levels. He was the leading wicket-taker in the two-phase Ranji Trophy last season.
Though the Indian squad has not been announced yet, young players like Sarfaraz Khan and Yashasvi Jaiswal are also expected to be included in the team. If Washington Sundar recovers from his shoulder injury, he might also find a place in the squad. Rajat Patidar is also in strong contention as he put forward an impressive performance in Ranji and for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the eliminator.
The three matches against New Zealand ‘A’ will take place from September 1-4, 8-11, and 15-18 in Bengaluru before the team head for three 50-over matches on September 22, 25, and 27 in Chennai.
